Building new software but don't have specialists with Human-Machine Interface (HMI) design skills in your team?
User First can help, whether for developers or clients of new software, we can review and analyze designs for user interfaces that are in the preliminary or detailed design phases of a project.
Cost
The cost of a design review is dependent on the number of hours required, which will be mostly dependent on the size and complexity of the software and quality of the supporting documentation.
Pre-requisites
In order to effectively conduct a design review, User First will need to be provided with:
- The context of how the software will be used
- Descriptions of the different user roles expected to use the software
- The scenarios under which the software will be used (often an Operational Concept Document and/or a Concept of Operations is sufficient)
- Any requirements documentation
- Any functional specification documents
- Documentation related to end-user interactions to date
- Access to all user interface designs (and any software prototypes, if available).
- Access to subject matter experts for any equipment that the software intends to interface with (if applicable).
Lead time
At least three weeks' notice is required for a design review.
Outputs
We'll provide you with a design review report that covers:
- Assessment of the design against relevant standards and best practice
- Evaluation of design aspects that could increase (or prevent) human error
- Suggestions to improve the user interface design
- Identification of gaps in the design that require further investigation
